ARTISTS Erin Turner / John DeGiorgio
Fiction NYC sought to enhance their sunset boat party with a theme based around sun and light – sun-worship. I curated the boat interior utilizing colorful and light enhanced art work, to create the show, RADIANT BEINGS.
Two artists bring light in form and function.
Erin Turner, who has created large-scale installations in various reaches of the world, constructed large-scale portable newspaper sculptures with internal lighting. These three installations were inspired by nature and ensuing phenomena, thus all very organic forms, adding depth and beauty to an otherwise raw space.
John De Giorgio’s two paintings added exuberant punches of color in a human-spiritual context. His two forms are at once radiant and meditative, reflecting his personal interest using art as a shared tool of discovery.

INSPIRATION FOR THE SHOW
Wilson, aka Wilbor, a Rio born + Brazilian-based artist, wanted to have his first show in NY. Knowing his love of skateboarding, and that much of his art stems from this, Suzanne found the perfect venue to showcase his work, Black Bear Bar. Black Bear Bar has become a local watering hole with a variety of rooms, one housing a skate bowl - where only the experienced are allowed to ride. From there, the rest was magic. Carve was born. Carve not only refers to the technique used creating of some of Wilbor’s pieces, but it is also a term used in skating and surfing – a playful take on Wilbor’s vibrant body of work.
Wilson Domingues on life
“As a longtime skateboard practitioner, I consider this activity far beyond sport, I think it has a social burden and stronger cultural statement, as in the package of this practice is the behavior, music and a very particular aesthetic sense where the city streets are stage to practice, creating a new use for the urban furniture with plastic character performances at least unusual for the beholder and makes use of the city in a common (sic shared) way."
"In the transgressive act of a skater, using a guide or stairs as an obstacle is the moment of creation, spontaneous improvisation, and thought - no more submissive to finding knowledge, so new possibilities of life.”
In this way, Wilson’s work is ever more relevant to the social and cultural undercurrents that are happening right now in Williamsburg.
It will take even more creativity and innovation to find ways to continue celebrating the artistic expression that made this neighborhood so popular. https://vimeo.com/349353595

The inspiration for this art show came to me when I heard that August is a flat month for art and many people leave the city. What better time to pull together some of my extremely creative friends, and put on a show for those of us in town? I also wanted to use this as a vehicle for people that Verboten and I know as creative people, who are lesser known for their art work, than their other jobs and connections.
I bring you MELT.
